Roughly 3,000 People Turn Out for Capitol “Tea Party” on Tax Day

by: Red Baron Wednesday, April 15th, 2009

Today is the day our federal and state tax returns are due. It is interesting to note today that Connecticut continues to have the highest tax burden of any state in the United States, but despite that, Democrats are on a course to increase our tax burden by $3.3 billion under their current budget proposal.

According to the Tax Foundation, Connecticut has the latest “Tax Freedom Day” of any state in the nation.  The date is a calculation of how many days of the year Connecticut residents on average must work to pay their combined federal, state and local taxes.  Connecticut’s “Tax Freedom” Day is May 10th, so keep working because you won’t be done paying your taxes until you have worked for 130 days this year.

Keep this in mind today as you file your tax return, and remember that instead of streamlining government or reducing spending, legislative democrats think you need to cough up an additional $3.3 billion.

Authorities estimated that roughly 3,000 people came to the Capitol today for a peaceful demonstration, where protestors groused about tax increases and the size of government.

[...] Imagine making $400,000 and having to fork over $228,000 of it to the government? Ya think that might make you want to start drinking tea? [...]
