House Republicans Look for Accountability on Jobs in Connecticut
HARTFORD- During today’s legislative session House Republicans offered an amendment which would require that any legislation which impacted jobs in the state of Connecticut must contain a “jobs impact statement.”Current state law requires that all bills with a fiscal impact contain a ”fiscal impact statement that shows how much a possible new law would cost the state or towns. This new measure would have added the jobs statement requirement to that law. The new type of statement would reflect how the legislation would impact jobs in both the public and private sector. The legislature can dispense with the fiscal impact requirement by a two-thirds vote of the General Assembly, and the proposed jobs impact statement would require a similar two-thirds vote to waive it’s use.House Republicans originally introduced the measure as a bill before the legislature’s Labor Committee, where the bill was drafted and received a public hearing, but the majority did not vote it out of committee.
“The amendment failed on a party-line vote.
