Democrats Say “No” to Bottle Money
Majority Democrats today rejected the proposal of Governor Rell to turn over roughly $25 million of uncollected bottle deposits to the state with the goal of closing the state budget deficit which is currently at $391 million, but will be $586.6 million by June 30th.
All 44 members of the House Republican caucus are supporting Governor Rell’s deficit mitigation package including taking the bottle deposit funds to help close the deficit. There are reports that the Democratic caucus is split on the issue of the deposit money, and House Speaker Jim Amann is in opposition to this portion of the governor’s plan. Is it possible that a coalition of Republicans and Democrats could combine to approve the proposal?
As of 6:00 p.m. the House has not yet gone in to debate or vote on the mitigation package.
UPDATE: You can see the Deficit Mitigation Bill here.

What the heck is going on here? The Legislature spends the entire day at the Capitol doing nothing and then debates a “deficit mitigation” bill that does nothing to mitigate the deficit?! Unreal. Well, you elect Democrats and this is what you get.

Companies do not have the money to retool their manufacturing. Not only will jobs be lost and companies going out of business, but you are infringing on the second amendment. What are you people thinking. Who would ever want to live in this state. My family is considering a move out of here.
