House GOP Leader Larry Cafero on “Three Strikes”

by: Red Baron Thursday, March 20th, 2008

House Republican Leader Larry Cafero was interviewed today on 1080 AM concerning the defeat by Democrats in the Judiciary Committee of a tough ‘Three StrikeRep. Larry Caferos’ bill that would require life in prison for a third conviction on a violent offense.

You can listen to the interview here.

“I don’t think it died, look at your polls,” said Cafero.  “We gave them everything they wanted, the prosecutorial discretion, and we used the very statute that had been vetted and proved Constitutional by their own words, and we said we wanted to make it mandatory and not discretionary, and they said ‘no.’”

Cafero vowed that a bill would be amended later this session on the floor of the House to include the ‘Three Strikes’ proposal.
