Rep. Hoydick Tours Stratford Tornado Damage, Supports Call for FEMA Funds
In the hours following the brief storm last Thursday which ripped through Bridgeport and the Lordship section of Stratford, Rep, Laura Hoydick joined Stratford Mayor John Harkins in support of Governor M. Jodi Rell’s application for FEMA assistance to the city. The storm has since been declared a tornado, having cut a path of destruction through both communities, taking roofs off buildings, uprooting trees and shattering windows along the way. Thankfully, no fatalities were reported from the dangerous and sudden storm. On Friday Rep. Hoydick took a walking tour to review the damage with Stratford Town Council members Kim Meuse (7th Dist.), Paul Hoydick (10th Dist.) and Chris Barnaby (1st Dist.) as well as Mayor Harkins and Roddy Diotalevi.
Rep. Hoydick noted that in the hours immediately following the storm most roadways were cleared.
“Mayor Harkins and his emergency management team did an excellent job informing the community and keeping residents safe during this extraordinary storm,” said Hoydick. “That great work is continuing through the clean-up process. The Department of Public Works and Department of Public Safety deserve particularly high praise for their hard work during this emergency.”
Most of the Lordship section has regained electrical power following the storm however some sections west of Stratford Road remain without power.
“Stratford deeply appreciates the Governor’s efforts on our behalf and her application to FEMA for emergency assistance funds,” said Hoydick. “The clean-up from this storm will continue to take effort and time and we will do all we can to be certain we have every possible resource available to us for a speedy recovery.”

One Response to “Rep. Hoydick Tours Stratford Tornado Damage, Supports Call for FEMA Funds”
I have to admit that this tornado that mysteriously appeared and ripped east bridgeport and stratford apart was unbelievable. Never in my life have i seen something this powerful and with sudden and instant damages. from lights out to so much more, this short tornado did cause a lot of residents so much anxiety and suffering yet I really have to salute Mayor Harkins as he did a phenomenol job. His response was just unprecedented. the crews just showed up and everyone got to work. I have not seen this much organized efforts put to work in such a short time. from cleanup crews, to electrical, to cabling, to everything else. both departments of public safety and public works really made me appreciate the high taxes that we pay around connecticut in this test of response that they just exceeded any and EVERY kind of expectation i had for a remedy to this semi-disaster.
thanks you guys, you all showed us what a great team and management you have and how wonderful you all can be in coming together and helping each other and our communities. we love you.
